I have been a reseller with Easy CGI for over two years now and I deal with a number of vendors including Dell, FCMS, and many others. I have never experienced the type of support and service that I have recieved from Easy CGI. Their support team is helpful and friendly. The company itself amazes me as well by the frequency they upgrade the features and tools with their hosting plans, without increasing the cost to the customer.

There are companies that offer better values and have a more professional customer service department. At Easycgi, they pass the blame onto third parties, when they screwed something up. Thats why they lost my business.

We have been with Easy CGI for about 3 years now.

The packages they offer are very nice. Two and 3 times more space and bandwidth than other companies at the same cost.

The support is wonderful. I rarely wait more than 20 minutes for a response to my support queries.

They have stayed within the 99.9% uptime. The email has been a little shaky this past month due to a new spam filter, but once they get that worked out it should be fine.

I currently have a total of 7 domains and 6 hosting packages with EasyCGI and have been a customer for the last 5 years.

For hosting ASP and ASP.Net websites, I have not found a better hoster out there that offers the same or even close to the options EasyCGI has.

Their control panel is very easy to use and they keep updating it all the time.

While they were putting the new spam filter in place, there were some problems with email, but there really hasn’t been anything major that has happened in the last 5 years I’ve been with them. I think the longest outage I had was for a couple of hours, but that’s expected in any shared hosting environment.

I find it difficult to believe some of the reviews of EasyCGI here are totally honest. I do accept their features are very good and the pricing very reasonable but the downtime is appalling and the support is shockingly bad. At the time of writing, our website has been down for 4 of the last 12 days with an error that occurs regularly with EasyCGI. We’ve been with them for about 3 years but today was the final straw.

You can be dazzled by the very nice features EasyCGI offer but if you sign up with them and things go wrong - and you expect reasonable support - don’t say you weren’t warned.

There are better hosting company options and I’d quickly advise you to find some.

Easy CGI was my 2nd webhost I had ever used. They were my 2nd because I had so many problems with my first host and the biggest problem was logging onto my control panel one day to discover I couldn’t log in and my account was gone. The webhost shut down without any notice and I had paid a full year’s subscription.

So I start scouting out a new webhost and stumbled upon Easy CGI. It was a fabulous service. I never had any downtime or slow loading pages. I only had to contact them once because I needed something done to the database and I couldn’t figure out how to proceed. They responded immediately and helped me out!

We’re going on 12 days of downtime and counting. They seem to have lost our 25 websites. Support is non-existent. Do a google search and you’ll see others have had problems. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Doug Rice called in on this issue after submitting the ticket. Attempted to check the scripting on the EventDetail.aspx page, but could not locate anything that pointed to the configuration of the website in regards to the databases.

Checked each of the databases within the user’s MySQL, saw the tables and listings established in there.

Attempted to get more information from the user, but after picking the line back up got silence on the other end before the user hung up.

If you have ever received an error message on a .Net application that simply stated “Server Application Unavailable” you might find this useful.

When you receive this error, make sure to check the event viewer on the server. This is found under administrative tools. Under the application event log, you will likely find an error that states: “It is not possible to run two different versions of ASP.NET in the same IIS process. Please use the IIS Administration tool to run the application in a separate process.”

An application pool is a process that responds to web requests under IIS. An application pool does not have a setting for what type of ASP.Net applications will be run in it. Instead, it loads the appropriate libraries when an ASP.Net application is loaded in the process. Because the libraries for ASP.Net 1.1 and ASP.Net 2.0 are similar, but not the same, the application pool cannot respond to requests for both types of applications at the same time. This can cause sporadic behaviour if you are using the server at the same time as another developer and you have applications using different versions of the framework in the same application pool.

Make sure that on your server there is an application pool dedicated to ASP.Net 2.0 applications and one for ASP.Net 1.1 applications. When you add an ASP.Net application to the server, make sure you select the right application pool for it.

Solution

This can happen for several reasons. An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Open the Event Viewer and see the error message reported. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error.

If the error message reported is:

Aspnet_wp.exe could not be launched because the username and/or password supplied in the processModel section of the config file are invalid.

Then the most likely causes are:

1.

Microsoft .NET Framework is no longer registered correctly.
2.

The Microsoft Internet Information Server memory is corrupted.
3.

The ASP.NET user no longer has access to the Microsoft .NET Framework folder, the application folder, or the Temporary Files folder.
4.

You have recently applied a security patch to IIS.
5.

Your system is a domain controller.
6.

(Advanced) The processModel section of the Machine.config file does not specify AutoGenerate for the password.

If you continue to have problems, please see the Additional Resources section below.

Make sure that the application pool user have access rights on the web folder. It should be either NETWORK SERVICE or ASPNET.

This error also occurs if the pool is corrupted for any reasons, try creating a new one.

Solution?

Try reinstalling ASP.NET (2.0.50727) to refresh the ASP.NET settings, config, metabase and security/worker accounts on the local machine:

1. Open a command prompt and….
2. Stop IIS: iisreset /stop
3. Change to the .NET Framework 2.0 root directory: C:\windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727\
4. Reinstall ASP.NET 2.0 by using the following command: aspnet_regiis -i
5. Start IIS again: iisreset /start
6. Try to access your web page again.

Note: there are many other fabulous options available to refresh your IIS settings… just give aspnet_regiis /? a run!

Server Application Unavailable, no event log, .NET 2

February 14, 2007 at 7:38 pm · Filed under ASP.NET, annoying, windows

A perplexing error while setting up my new system:

Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.

Please hit the “Refresh” button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the system event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

The web leads me far astray. I did not have anything in the event log.

The solution? Give MACHINE/ASPNET permission to my project. I found this a LOT faster by switching to .NET 1.1 in IIS, and that gave a much more useful error message. I guess “Server Application Unavailable” is .NET 2’s way of crapping its pants.

saw in their knowledge base that they only support .NET 2.0 and 3.0.

I updated to .NET 2.0 (I don’t have 3.0 yet). Uploaded to the web site and it still has the same message. Something is still in memory there. They need to restart the application pool for raceforum I think.

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a “web.config” configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its “mode” attribute set to “Off”.

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the “defaultRedirect” attribute of the application’s configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
