IX Web Hosting

One of the lowest cost web hosts out there, with plans starting at $3.95/month, plus free domain registration. Their budget plan doesn’t come with features more complex site builders expect, such as database access or SSL installation, but is more than enough for a small personal site.

The features are great but uptime is a problem while email can be down quite often. Support is pretty poor with most replies answering the question they hoped you asked.

I am sticking with them because they have some good features like dedicated IP for all your sites.

I though this web hosting was one of the best when I switched to ixwebhosting but by the time I have noticed that the uptime is a huge problem as well as e-mail functions and website speed.. sometimes I am getting really tired..
I didn’t get what they have promised at all
IXwebhosting is newly announced that they have built a new Data Center. I hope that helps to the speed and up timing of the server otherwise I definitely reconsider my decision.

Tomorrow (March 13) is my 2-year anniversary with IX. I went with them because of several factors – 1) super uptime ratings, 2) I could host 6 domains on one plan (later changed to 8, now unlimited), 3) dedicated IPs (now up to 8 on one plan), 4) 24/7 support (phone, chat, trouble ticket), 5) huge amounts of disk space and transfer (now unlimited on both), 6) allowed mailing lists, 7) good control panel and proper Linux setup, 8) great value (about $8/month).

The first year was great! There were a few “bumps” this past year, but the nightmare started in January when I asked to move one of my plans to the new, super high-speed server (lots of new features and faster loading sites). Yes, they said, it’s free, just let them know and they’d switch my account. I asked if there was anything I needed to know before the move or if there were any instructions available. (I’m a designer, not a tech.) They said there weren’t any instructions, just backup and upload it all after the switch. No problem. I got my backups and told them to do the switch.

Then the problems started. My .htaccess files that worked beautifully on php4 didn’t work on php5. Tech support INSISTED that I could use the web server options to do “add type-handler” so my .html files would be processed as .php. After battling that issue for weeks, someone FINALLY admitted that it didn’t work. In the meantime, I’d adjusted the .htaccess code so it handled that (without including the code that php5 doesn’t like). Numerous other glitches had to be worked out.

Finally got settled in after the move and was looking forward to trying out all the cool new features … when I noticed that my sites seemed to be running slower. Then one of my clients mentioned the same thing. This was supposed to be a faster server? Then I started noticing that my sites that were on the other plan (still on the old server) sometimes ran slow, too.

In February the nightmare began in earnest. About mid-February, I started finding the sites down – this one, then another one, the first one up, another down, just sporadic. Usually the times were short, but it was cause for concern. Tech support’s usual response (after waiting for awhile while they checked) was, “They’re up now.”

On Feb. 20 I signed up with montastic.com to monitor the uptime. (They don’t check every 10 minutes like it says, but they do check periodically. It’s a free service; you really can’t complain.) Since then, I’ve gotten reports of sites down:
Feb. 26
Feb. 27
Feb. 28
Feb. 29
Mar. 3 (all sites, approximately 1 hour known down time)
Mar. 4
Mar. 6
Mar. 9
Mar. 10
Mar. 11 (all sites, approximately 45 minutes known down time)
Mar. 12 (all sites, down at least 3 times, and one of those was about 2 hours in the middle of the day)

Those are the times I KNOW about and have independent proof of. I cringe to think of the times I don’t know about. One of my clients on the old server has had email problems….

Tech support is polite; SOME are knowledgeable, others, well…. However, since I’ve been reporting all the down times, chat support says I need to file a trouble ticket, and ticket support says they can’t find any evidence in the server logs of problems so I need to contact chat support. (I can’t always do that because sometimes the down times are 3 a.m., etc.)

Sometimes the trouble ticket people answer with nonsense (i.e. they obviously didn’t read the ticket carefully), then you have to reply and wait ANOTHER 24 hours hoping for an intelligent response. Chat is usually available quickly; trouble tickets usually aren’t answered for about 24 hours. Toll-free phone support varies (queue may be from 4-50).

When I’ve been able to get a response regarding why the sites are down it’s been “an abuser on the system (access was terminated)” or “server overload”. Actually, that’s not terribly surprising if they allow “unlimited transfers” (which has been added in the last couple of months).

What seemed to have been a great host has turned into a HUGE disappointment and is ruining my business, not to mention harming my clients’ operations. I don’t think I need to explain why I’m visiting “Award Winning Hosts” ….

My review is the same as Teresa’s on here…I agree with all that she has mentioned. With the exception of 24/7 – trouble ticket help…it usually takes them 24 hrs to respond… but other than that I have not had anycomplaints. Been with them for over 1 yr now…and will continue using this web host.

1) super uptime ratings, 2) I could host unlimited domains on one plan (3) dedicated IPs (now up to 8 on one plan), 4) 24/7 support (phone, chat, trouble ticket – this does take some time to get a reply from them…)5) huge amounts of disk space and transfer (now unlimited on both), good control panel- great value (about $8/month).

I am now with ix webhosting for more than 4 years.
I am considering moving to another hoster.
Their service was reasonable but is getting poorer.
Ftp upload and download is slow.
Server not often down but often slow.
Ticket response time on average longer than 24 hours.
Even if they make a mistake in answering the ticket you have to
wait another 24 hours for their reply.
Moving with them from php4 to php5 support is a disaster.

The IX web service is getting worse and worse.
Now online chat needs wait. I think the company expand too quickly to keep the good service.

They jammed one server with way too many hosts. Shopping cart, like magneto will create overload on their server and they will shut down your whole web site without a warning or notice.

Overall, don’t use it if you are looking for a stable web hosting.
